Walters man charged after allegedly faking overdose to receive medical bond release

WALTERS, Okla. (KSWO) — A Walters man is back behind bars after authorities say he faked an overdose to escape from jail.Vincent Cody Williams, 32, is charged with escaping from the Cotton County Jail.Vincent Cody Williams(Cotton County Jail)On June 6, an officer with the Walters Police Department was on patrol and saw Williams, who had a warrant out for another charge. The officer stopped and detained Williams.While detaining Williams, the officer allegedly located more than five grams of a crystal-like substance that later tested positive as methamphetamine. Williams had previously been convicted of possession of a controlled and dangerous substance.Around 10:19 p.m. the evening of Williams’ arrest, dispatch was called to the Cotton County Jail for a suspected overdose. The inmate was identified as Williams.While receiving treatment, Williams was granted a medical O.R. bond, then allegedly began refusing further treatment and left the scene.Williams has been charged with one felony count of escaping from a county jail.If convicted, Williams faces up to life in prison due to his former felony conviction.Copyright 2026 KSWO.
